LCC Offers New Respite Care Course for Caregivers
LANSING 9/20/11
– Lansing Community College will offer a non-credit course in respite care
beginning October 20 for individuals who have or will become caregivers for
children, adults, or the elderly with disabilities or specialized needs.
The eight week course will help participants become effective caregivers by
learning the emotional, physical, environmental, and spiritual aspects of
caring for the whole person, not just their disability or medical condition.
Participants will learn best practices and methods to improve their skills
and confidence for providing quality care, and setting up in home services.
Upon successfully completing the eight week course, participants will earn a
Certificate of Participation.
Today in the U.S., 30 million families provide care for an adult over the
age of 50 — a number expected to double in 25 years. As a result, providing
care for an aging loved one will be as common in the future as providing
childcare is today.
This rate is much faster than the job growth expected for jobs in other
fields and industries around the country. Jobs in this field allow for
flexible hours and rewarding relationships with those who need support
during critical times in their life.
The course will be available on
Thursday evenings for eight weeks beginning October 20 in
Lansing Community College’s Health and Human Services Building,
Main Campus.
