Q: Is orientation mandatory?
A:
New degree-seeking or new transfer bound students
must participate in orientation prior to registering for classes. Other students
are welcome to attend as well.

Q:
Why do I have to attend
orientation?
A: Students who
attend orientation are more prepared to begin classes and more successful in
reaching their academic goals. Orientation provides information and services in
one place, rather than having new students try to obtain this information from
each office on their own.

Q: Is there a fee to attend orientation?
A: No, there is no cost to attend orientation.

Q: How long is orientation?
A: In person
orientation is four hours in length with a resource room to allow students to
register for classes that lasts up to an additional 30 minutes; students must
attend the entire session. Orientation can also be completed
online. Online
orientation may take less time than in person and does not have to be completed
in one sitting.

Q: Is orientation offered year round?
A: In person orientation is offered select days during Spring registration
(November-January), during Summer registration (April-May) and during Fall
registration (June-August). Online Orientation is also available during this

Q: What is covered at orientation?
A:
At orientation students will receive a campus tour, learn tips on how to
be successful while in college, learn ways to pay for college, i.e. financial
aid, receive academic advising, learn about LCC technology and register for
classes.

Q: Do I have to complete my placement tests prior to
completing orientation?
A:
Yes, placement levels must
be established prior to academic advising and registering for courses.
Students can obtain placement levels by
testing or waivers.
Plan to complete this step prior to attempting orientation.

Q:
Where can I park my
vehicle at Lansing Community College?
A: Information about all of LCC's parking including locations and costs can be
found here.
For sessions during the week and during the day, we recommend you park in the
ramps, as you will not be able to leave the orientation to feed a meter. Street
meters are free after 6p.m. and on weekends.

Q. May I bring a guest or children?
A.
Students are allowed to bring one adult guest to orientation. Due to the
structure and material covered at orientation it is not appropriate for students
to being children. For more information on the Children on Campus policy, click
here.

Q. I have a disability, how can I arrange
accommodations?
A: Facilities used during orientation are barrier free. Accessible parking is
available in each parking lot on campus for persons who properly display a
current state-issued disabled/handicapped plaque/card in accordance with the
State of Michigan.
Other accommodations for students with disabilities may be available upon
request.
Please notify us of your needs for accommodation at least one week prior to your
arrival. Please notify the Office of Disability Support Services of your need
for accommodations by calling 517-483-1924.

Q.
I am running late to orientation. What should I do?
A. Plan to arrive to orientation 30 minutes early to allow for ample
time to park, find the room and check in. Students who are late will need to
reschedule for
another date or complete orientation
online (for
those who qualify).

Q. Do I have to pre-register or RSVP?
A. Yes, sign up for
in person orientation is required.

Q. After I complete orientation, when
does the hold get removed?
A. For students who complete orientation online, please allow 2 business days
for the hold to be removed from your student account.
For students who attend an in person session, the hold will
be removed during the orientation session. This will allow you to register
immediately following the session.

Q. When is the Orientation deadline?
A. Students must complete orientation by the published deadline each
semester in order to register for full semester courses. Students who miss the
orientation deadline will be encouraged to attend late start orientation for
late start classes, or attend orientation for the next semester.
Orientation deadlines are:
Summer 2011: May 31, 2011
Fall 2011: August 16, 2011
Spring 2012: December 21, 2011
Keep in mind that students cannot register for courses until
they complete orientation, and classes are filling up daily, so make completing
orientation a priority.
