Alumni & Friend - Kyle Caldwell

President/CEO, Michigan Nonprofit Association and LCC Distinguished Alumni Award recipient

Years ago I enrolled in LCC's photography program because it had an excellent reputation statewide and nationally as a photography school with great people and facilities. I subsequently earned my bachelor's and masters degrees and began a career in public service. And while that wasn't the field I studied at LCC, I was still very much a product of LCC's philosophy of bringing students along from where they are in education and life and helping them grow to where they need to be. LCC's underlying goal of making students better citizens helped me find my roots and really laid a foundation for me.

LCC took me from a struggling kid looking to find his way to someone passionate about learning. They didn't just label me as not meeting some required educational level, and therefore I couldn't participate in a chosen program. They helped me learn to learn and get what I needed to succeed.

The college is a tool that not just students but also the community can use. When you look at issues like economic development, high school dropout rates, getting people involved in the community, LCC puts itself in the center of all that. That's all part of its educational mission in helping students succeed both scholastically and in life.
