Precision Machinist Manufacturing

My job is never dull. It's always exciting. I can have something in my mind that has never been created before, and within a day I can have it in my hand. That's powerful! And that's how every economy that's ever been successful has built wealth.

Manufacturing is not dead. Just the opposite. Everything we buy has to be manufactured - someone has to design it and someone has to make it. When our LCC students graduate, they enter the workforce highly trained on some of the most sophisticated technical equipment available. The new jobs in manufacturing are awesome and high-paying. And I find it so satisfying that our students are the skilled technicians that are getting those jobs.

I tour local manufacturing facilities in the mid-Michigan area and can't walk into them without seeing LCC students. We have one student working on a team at Boeing that designs all the interiors for Boeing aircraft. Another student moved to San Diego and was in a four-part bidding war for his skills. He finally settled on $80,000 - that's with an associate degree from LCC. Another student works in design and manufacture of titanium medical implants and aerospace titanium components.

To be part of a field where you're creating the future all the time is amazing. I love it, I just love it.
