Lansing Community College
Student Leadership Academy

The Lansing Community College Student Leadership Academy is a unique leadership development experience combining leadership theory with practice on campus and in community service settings. Members are exposed to a wide array of leadership opportunities to develop a positive sense of leadership and service. The Academy uses Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society's Leadership Development Program concepts to produce highly skilled and experienced graduates in the areas of leadership and service.

Student Leadership Academy Requirements

  • Enroll for at least 6 credits, including the required Student Leadership Development Series course each semester
  • Maintain at least a 2.0 grade in Student Leadership Series courses and a 2.5 overall grade point average each semester
  • Be in good standing (i.e., not on academic or social probation) each semester
  • Actively participate in Student Leadership Development Series
  • Mentor a Lansing School District middle school student (16 hours/semester)
  • Participate in planned community service activities in the Lansing community (32 hours/semester)

Student Leadership Development Series Courses

Semester 1 LEAD 110 - Two (2) credit Leadership Development Class

Course topics: Responsibilities of Leadership, Articulating a
Vision, Leading with Goals, Creative Problem Solving/Decision Making,
Managing Time, Team Building, Empowering and Delegating, Managing
Conflict, Initiating Change, Ethics, Servant Leadership

Semester 2 LEAD 111 - Two (2) credit Leadership Development Class

This class reinforces the skills introduced in the first class.

Semester 3 Lead 210 - Two (2) credit Leadership Development Practicum Class

This class provides both on and off campus leadership and service
practicum experiences.

Semester 4 LEAD 211 - Two (2) credit Leadership Development Practicum Class

This class provides both on and off campus leadership and service
practicum experiences.
